Goats.

May 27, 2009

Goats are really cute. Most of them anyway.

Zac had goats for pets when he was little. Two of them. Named Blacky and Horny. Very politically correct.

Last weekend we visited Grants Farm, an Anheasuer-Busch attraction that includes a deer park, lots of random wildlife, a hands-on farm and most importantly, part of the AB Clydesdale breeding operation. Clydesdale horses make me happy, they are the main reason I wanted to visit Grant’s Farm.

Turns out, goats also make me happy. The farm part had a large area full of baby goats! For $1, you could bottle feed the baby goats. So we did.

PS – Photoshop is once again working correctly. YAY! My life is so much better when Photoshop works. Enjoy the pics : )

Yeah. He’s that hot and he’s kind to baby animals. Don’t blame me when I bear a dozen of his children.

And the resulting photo…

That goat was drunk. Anyway. The resulting photo…

After this I found a cute white goat. I instructed him to sit and stay. He did not. I tend to assume all animals will react to me the way dogs to. This is not the case. So I resorted to some sort of odd trance-inducing goat voodoo as seen here…

And it worked. That damn goat smiled for my camera.

After this I was convinced the goats understood me. I wanted a good picture of me and a goat.

If I or any other photographer has taken a photo of you recently you have undoubtedly heard some version of the phrase “bring it in tight.” Likely followed by, “tighter!” Meaning that if you want a good photo, you best get your head up close to the other person’s head. Easy photo rule – if you want to show relationship between two people, put their heads close together. No, closer then that.

So I found a goat I liked, got up next to him and said, “Hey, goat! Bring it in tight!” The following photos depict my success…

goat4

Hey. Whoa. Wrong direction goat buddy.

goat5

Hold still little goat buddy!

The next photo demonstrates goat intelligence. I said, “Listen buddy! I need you to lean in! And I leaned my head towards him. Then the goat leaned too. He just leaned the wrong direction.

goat6

Honestly.

There were no signs or gruff looking security people warning me to not to pick up the baby goats. So I did.

Success! With a minor goat bite. Ha!

I hope you’ve enjoyed this episode of Maggie & Zac’s General Jackassery.

Stay turned for the horses. Sigh. The horses. If I win the lottery or become a wildly successful photographer (both are likely, I think) I’m going to use my riches to buy horses and cowboys who will clean up after them.
