A Big List of Adventures

January 27, 2011

I have a new challenge for myself and I’m so excited to share it here!

Today I stumbled on a little article in St. Louis MetroMix suggesting 101 things every St. Louisian should do in 2011.

I’m always on a hunt for new things to do around here, whether it be a new restaurant or an annual event or a place to visit. So I flipped through the suggestions one at a time. I was surprised to see we’d already done over 20 of them!

But there were plenty of things we haven’t done, so I narrowed down the list, only eliminating those that were either impossible: 97. Pick veggies from your neighborhood garden…

…or were simply of no interest to me at all: 18. Ice Skate in Forest Park. No ice skating for this girl. At the beginning of this week I fell on ice. After a lovely trip to the Urgent Care and a handful of prescription meds, I am now certain that I am too old to be falling down. So no ice skating.

A few things on the list we’ve already done but would really like to do again, so I kept them on! With a few others, we’d already been there/done that, but maybe not the way the article suggested. For example – we’ve dined at Fitz’s plenty of times. But we’ve never ordered a root beer float. So it stays on the list.

So here’s my challenge: Complete 50 of the 70 things listed by the end of 2011 and blog every single one.

We’ll complete the idea just as it was suggested on the list, document it with my trusty camera, and then report back via a blog post. The blog posts will be marked under a new category – StL Adventures 2011 – so you can find them easily and see what you might like to try yourself.

The list is below. Have any ideas to add to it?

Even if you don’t live in the St. Louis area, I hope our adventures will inspire you to find little adventures in your own neck of the woods. Remember, it isn’t about spending big bucks on lavish adventures. It isn’t about impressing anyone with your cultural resume. It’s about getting out and taking advantage of what’s just up the road. It’s about trying new things, and pushing yourself, and making memories.

Here’s to a year full of tiny adventures! Cheers!

PS – We’d love company for any of these adventures! So if one sparks your interest, let me know and you can come along and then be a blog star when I report back!!
