Fairview Heights Wedding – Madeline + Andy

October 19, 2015

We have a beautiful wedding to share today!! I’ve been excited to blog this one for a while!

Madeline and Andy were married in a lovely old church in New Baden, IL and celebrated with a Fairview Heights wedding reception. Basically our own backyard but new locations all around for us – I love that. Just before the ceremony was to begin, the power went out in the entire area. The musician prepared to play an electric keyboard was not thrilled but I was kinda digging the challenge of shooting a ceremony in a natural lights only church! The lights popped back on just before things got underway though. I think I was the only one who was a little disappointed :)

Let’s get straight to it with a little morning pep talk and some getting ready giggles…

I’m such a sucker for lace. I never get tired of lace wedding gowns. Every single time I photograph one, I want to get married again!

We built in sometime to handle some portraits before the ceremony, even though though Madeline and Andy were waiting to see each other until the ceremony. It worked out beautifully!

And a wedding photo PSA: Consider doing your family photos – or at least the immediate family photos – in a location other than the altar. Altar photos have their place and are of course convenient for large groups, but you can’t beat a more personal, pretty portrait of you and your family on your big day.

This was a first for me… Madeline’s mom said she had one request and to be honest I figured she wanted a photo of herself and a cousin she hadn’t see in a while (we get that a lot!) but no she said, “I want a photo of the entire congregation.”

Ummm…

But, they had taken care of business before hand, the priest was in on the plan and the balcony was open and ready for us so boom! There ya go! Entire congregation. Done.

Post ceremony we stopped a park in O’Fallon, IL en route to the reception. I worked perfectly – I love the rich, summery color is these!! Another PSA: It is totally okay to do all of your formal photos in one spot. One really great spot (as defined by your highly choosy photographers) is way better than 5 mediocre spots.
