Miss Grace

July 8, 2010

You’re going to love these….who ever you are.

This is Miss Grace. (See Grace’s Sneak Peak Here.)

“Miss” is not formally part of her name, but she is so composed and sweet natured and adult-like for a four-year-old that you just feel compelled to address her as “Miss.”

I’ll warn you now that there are an unusually high number of photos in this blog post. I couldn’t help myself. She’s just so lovely! I was going to be sneaky and turn groups of photos into collages so it looked like less. But you know what, that takes a long time and I’m busy. So lets just all accept the fact that I really love these photos.

I think Grace’s photos are good example of what I aim for with every session – variety. There’s a good balance of sweet, casual portraits and fun, funky shots. I like that. When Grace has her own daughter, she can show her these photos and convey not just what she looked like at 4, but how she acted too!

Sorry, I’m a sap. That’s why I’m a photographer.

Favorite alert!!!

We had lots of fun with the umbrellas. Posing 4 year olds is probably the best part of my job!

After the umbrella fun, we busted out something even MORE fun.

I promise we took photos of Grace with out anything in hands : ) It’s just that these are the most fun to share!

Check out that face! Grace has the BEST personality!

Never be afraid to laugh when you’re getting your picture taken : ) It’s the best.

I’d like to break here to discuss something that happens at EVERY photo session involving children (and sometimes adults). Pouting. Inevitably, at some point during the session, the kiddo pouts. You have to expect it – its two hours of doing odd things in odd places with strangers. Most of the time they have a ton of fun. But usually at some point, they just need a minute to pout. It’s always met with horror from the parents. “Are you pouting?!!” Yup, folks, they’re pouting. Don’t even bother to try and stop them. While a pout in progress may seem horrifying – I promise it will result in ridiculously cute photos. And excellent material for their 21st birthday party or rehearsal dinner.

Witness now, the adorable pout:

Told you! At the end of the season we’re going to have a contest for the most adorable pout – I’ve got one from every session! And really, there’s no need to worry about the pouting. It never lasts…as shown in the photo taken immediately after the pouting one:

Long live the pout! God knows I can pout like a champ. By the time we have kids, Zac will have perfected the “Are you pouting??!” question.

Balloons in a field of grass at sunset? Things to thank Jesus for!

These pretty shots were taken on campus at SIUE. It is seriously one of the most beautiful places to be and I try  to never take for granted that I get to go there every day. Two other sessions you’ll be seeing soon were shot on campus also – it’s just perfect.

See all those trees in the background? The lowest ones turn fire red in the fall. I know, I spent two falls living there and photographing them like crazy. Those could be in the background of you photos…just something to consider : )

Okay, only a few more… This last set of photos was taken at an ice cream stand that is perfectly vintage (how many times have I said ‘perfect’ in this post??) and I was very excited to get some vintage-y, ice cream-eating, summery shots of Grace!

Perfect : )    (Just once more for good measure I guess…)

Much thanks to Miss Grace and her mom Sarah for being so relaxed and up for anything with this shoot!
